Working with Leela MadhavaRau continues to bring great benefits to Simcoe Muskoka Catholic’s equity work. Leela has presented a number of times to different groups of staff at Simcoe Muskoka Catholic District School board. These presentations were engaging and thought-provoking. They were both affirming of our current work, and challenging - helping us to see and develop our next steps. Following the success of the presentation we were fortunate to work with Leela more closely in developing an equity training module for all staff: Strengthening Equity, Diversity and Inclusion: Ideas and Actions for Daily Practice. Leela listened closely to our needs and wants for training, pushed us to think about areas we had yet to consider, and customized the module to meet the needs of our Catholic system. The resulting module provides impactful professional development blending an understanding of issues and providing practical ideas for all staff to implement whatever their role. Leela also provided an extensive support resource list allowing us to use the training module as a platform for further, deeper work.

We asked Leela to design two distinct sessions for us, one introductory session for a group of representatives from organizations across Canada along with our board and staff members and a follow-up exclusively for our board and staff. She listened carefully and willingly tailored her two presentations to our groups, which had very different focuses. Leela is intelligent, thoughtful, and well organized, and she asked good questions and delivered two excellent sessions that met our needs. What’s more, she was a pleasure to work with.

“When I was given the task of doing a program review for the Cross Cultural Centers at Cal State LA, the first person I thought of to lead it was Leela MadhavaRau. Having been professional peers, and leaders in the California Council of Cultural Centers in Higher Education, I had seen and heard of Leela’s work in program review, organizational leadership and change, and making solid recommendations based on data and observation. During the entire process, from consultation, to data collection, to reporting out results and recommendations to the Cal State LA community, Leela exhibited a high level of preparation, professionalism, understanding of the internal and external issues impacting higher education/cultural centers, insight, and ability to work with numerous stakeholders on campus. The written report and public presentation were well done. If I have an opportunity to do a similar process at my current institution, I would definitely reach out to Leela MadhavaRau for the program review task and other related processes. I strongly recommend LMR Human Rights and Equity Consulting.”
